Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen...

...makes me think (once again) that conflict conflict conflict is overrated as a requirement for story.

(I don't think it's as memorable as some of the earlier books in the series, but I do think that I read it just as eagerly and I was never bored.

I'm not sure how re-readable it's going to be -- because yes, it's basically all character and world, so that ought to make it more re-readable, because it doesn't depend on plot twists at all, but on the other hand, even if the plot doesn't twist, the details are often just surprising enough to be interesting, which surprise is obviously not going to happen a second time...on the other hand, it might make a really good comfort read.)

God, that's one more book I need to get my hands on this month. (I also really want to read Robert Jackson Bennett's City of Blades, because I loved the prequel.)

Although it does occur to me that I should probably get around to finishing Captain Vorpatril's Alliance first, since I'm behind. :p
